I haven't been able to use this feature until I read this thread. As Lionel suggested, a more intuitive design would be really nice. It does make sense once I understand how it was meant to be used, so the functionality is fine. Just make it more obvious what the intent is.
Here are some suggestions: Change the save icon from a simple floppy to a floppy with a pen writing on it...as in: "Save as" - I think Open Office uses this icon for 'save as.'
