Public bug reported:

When ubuntu runs out of ram memory and there is no more swap space on
the separate patrition avialable, the mouse stops moving, the keyboard
stops responding, and it starts to grind the harddrive for a long while
(I haven't decided to yet see for how long, but it just doesn't stop).

I heard that Linux can make use of a page file also, but apparently this
isn't the case. Its very frustrating because then you just lose all your
work you've been doing - in my case, Ubuntu sometimes forgets to mount
the swap space, so once I run out of my 512 ram, only a hard reboot can
save it.

** Affects: ubuntu
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
