On my laptop the two battery symbols are also shown, but give different information. One is the real battery, product battery-bay, with a capacity of 80 Wh. The second is a small battery, product li-ion, with a capacity of 7,2 Wh. This second battery seems to be the battery feeding the bios settings RAM. ls /proc/acpi/battery also shows one battery, BAT1 in my case. (Hardy AMD64 2.6.24)
