I did stop gdm3 and created Xorg.log (via ssh and startx) for 5.8.0-55 (which is fine) and 5.8.0-63 (where the internal display is black). EDID & modelines do look the same, input/event are numbered differently, SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad (*-63) vs PS/2 Generic Mouse (*-55)
