i think we really need to figure out some way to actually ensure this is
fixed for older releases without manual intervention, even if that's
different from how it's fixed in debian and/or the devel release. This
is a real problem for real users, and we shouldn't expect them to hit
the problem and then do their own research to figure out how to work
around it on their own.
