This *just* happened to me about 10 minutes ago, with pretty much exactly the same scenario as the bug description. I accidentally drug a Firefox URL (from the address bar) onto the top panel and ALL of my launchers (read: not applets), including my drawers full of launchers, dissapeared (so did my main menu). All that was left was a new launcher for the URL I accidentally drug there.

This scared the SH*T out of me, as I had many critical ssh launchers with IPs in them (basically just a bunch of information that would have been hell to try to get back). This should be considered a very baaaad bug.
