Public bug reported: I am using Ubuntu Mate 20.10 5.8.0-49-generic
I have a 2TB external disk which contains two 1TB partitions. The first partition is a dd copy of another 1TB disk with directories and files on it (my films). dd was successful in its' operation and the new external disk performs as expected. dd has left 1TB free space after the operation which I want to use. I had no options appear on the 'Additional Partition Options' menu. This I understood to be because the free space was not partitioned. The only options were in the 'Drive Options' menu. I opted for Format Disk. This I now believe to be the wrong thing to do because it did indeed format the disk. I now have 2TB of free space instead of 2 x 1TB partitions with one full of my directories and files. I believe the gnome-disk-utility to have a bug inasmuch that there is not an option to format the free space on a disk that has been 'correctly' formatted and written to using dd. ** Affects: parted (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1924934 Title: 'disks' program faulty To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/parted/+bug/1924934/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
