Public bug reported:

When installing the platformio package on ubuntu 20.10, I cannot install
the necessary board support package to my project. Upstream appears to
have deprecated the APIs used by version 4.x since version 5.x. During
the past hours, said APIs became unavailable making this package
unusable.

Quoting a comment in the aforementioned discussion:
Per _platformio ยท PyPI_, 4.3.4 is from May 2020, as opposed to 5.1.1 (current
latest stable) from March 2021.

Can you please provide a version 5.x of this package?
