Happen to me also. usually happens then some video application is minimized and then restored. Then Xors restarts and everything is OK. sometimes happens at random places like start of shutdown, or completely random. Then yuo have no choise to recovery, because nothing works. Even SysRq+b does nothimg . Compiz fusion has no effect. Happens with or without it.
