Public bug reported:
Attempting to boot under secure boot/uefi on trusty ESM with the
following packages installed:
$ dpkg -l 'grub*' | grep ^ii
ii grub-common 2.02~beta2-9ubuntu1.22 amd64 GRand Unified
Bootloader (common files)
ii grub-efi-amd64 2.04-1ubuntu42 amd64 GRand Unified
Bootloader, version 2 (EFI-AMD64 version)
ii grub-efi-amd64-bin 2.04-1ubuntu42 amd64 GRand Unified
Bootloader, version 2 (EFI-AMD64 modules)
ii grub-efi-amd64-signed 1.164+2.04-1ubuntu42 amd64 GRand Unified
Bootloader, version 2 (EFI-AMD64 version, signed)
ii grub2-common 2.02~beta2-9ubuntu1.22 amd64 GRand Unified
Bootloader (common files for version 2)
ii grub2-themes-ubuntustudio 0.2 all GRand Unified
Bootloader, version 2 (Ubuntu Studio theme)
and with all GRUB_HIDDEN options disabled in /etc/default/grub:
$ grep ^GRUB /etc/default/grub
GRUB_DEFAULT=0
GRUB_TIMEOUT=10
GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR=`lsb_release -i -s 2> /dev/null || echo Debian`
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=""
results in grub being unable to display the grub menu when booting.
Pressing Esc also does not cause the menu to display; however, it is
being recognized as it cause grub to stop its countdown (and thus never
boot).
This is a regression in that the same set of options with the prior
round of updates published in the trusty ESM archive will successfully
bring up the grub menu on boot, with the following packages installed:
$ dpkg -l 'grub*' | grep ^ii
ii grub-common 2.02~beta2-9ubuntu1.21 amd64 GRand Unified
Bootloader (common files)
ii grub-efi-amd64 2.02~beta2-9ubuntu1.21 amd64 GRand Unified
Bootloader, version 2 (EFI-AMD64 version)
