I changed it. Actually lximage-qt also doesn't respect the theme.

** Description changed:

I wanted to have a dark theme for Lubuntu.

I installed a custom GTK theme called Ultimate-Plata-Dark-3.36 which is
  quite dark.

This only affected apps that used GTK.

As per the instructions in the LXQt Appearance Configuration window, I
selected the 'gtk2' Qt style after install qt5-style-plugins.

Afterwards, apps such as qpdfview adopted the GTK theme.

- *EXCEPT* PCManFM, which stubbornly persists in its original light theme.
