Thanks for the report. Just by installing the package I cannot trigger this problem; it complains that it "cannot find inband device". I wonder what it would take to have a reproducer for this.
In any case, this looks like a valid bug. Since there is a known and easy workaround, I'm marking it as low priority for now. If we have any spare cycles, someone from the Ubuntu Server team will address this. Otherwise, when Debian fixes this issue we should get the fix as well.
