Hi @sarthur, I am sorry if you felt ignored, this is not the Ubuntu community intention. What you described seems to not be supported by unattended-upgrades, therefore, it'd be a whishlist bug (feature request) against it. I'd recommend to file this bug against Debian and discuss it with the maintainers (they are the upstream), and if/when the feature lands there we will be happy to sync it.
