upstream has closed the issue on gnome-terminal, saying "gnome-terminal only shows fonts that are monospace, as reported by pango. So if this font doesn't show up correctly, it's a problem in the font (or pango), not gnome-terminal." i've poked the https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/pango/-/issues/483 issue
