Its a problem with gnome as far as I can tell and as I was using Mint Linux
3.0 at the time (the Gnome based version) I haven't reproduced this result
so far with the later version of Mint Linux 4.0 (KDE based) based upon
Ubuntu 7.10. or with Kubuntu.

(Mint Linux is apparently an Irish invention - They take Ubuntu an polishes
it further for the desktop - its really nice).
