I am a new Linux user, and I face the same problem in Ubuntu 20.04
A short (about a second or less) repeated sound occurs at random times, in the
browser, in VLC or even the system sounds, and it's actually annoying.
I tried Fedora 32 but the same issue there but less likely to happens, and I
tried OpenSUSE Leap 15.2 and it never happened.
My search led me to an Arch article explaining the situation:
"The newer implementation of the PulseAudio sound server uses timer-based audio
scheduling instead of the traditional, interrupt-driven approach.
Timer-based scheduling may expose issues in some ALSA drivers. On the other
hand, other drivers might be glitchy without it on, so check to see what works
on your system."
See
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/PulseAudio/Troubleshooting#Glitches,_skips_or_crackling
I tried the proposed solutions but it Don't work.
