Hello William, thanks for the bug report; more likely is the theme files were stored on failed drive sectors, and requesting the images for the theme exposed pre-existing hard drive problems.
I suggest heading to irc or askubuntu.com with your system logs, hopefully you'll be able to get an idea of what's wrong with your system.
