OK, think I got it. I'm adding apport file apport.linux.yukw0jij.apport as an attachment. Keep in mind that after installing Mint 20 Xfce with kernel 5.4.0-26, and updating to 5.4.0-40.44, I did two things that changed what I get from the sound system, one for the better, the other for the worse (see forum discussion https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=323823):
