I've had the same issue... RDP from windows 10. After authentication, I
got the error message "Could not acquire name on session bus".

What worked for me:

Searching for a clue I found the following article:

Reading through I discovered that I do not have an .xsession file in my
home directory. I created one using

echo env -u SESSION_MANAGER -u DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS mate-
session>~/.xsession

and then it started to work.
