Personally I don't want to use a fix that breaks the update system, if a
new kernel came out the repo, then X would likely fail again. So I am
stuck until a fixed driver is released. I understand the new (beta)
driver needs to go through QA testing, but the existing driver should
not have got through QA with these bugs anyway. Shouldn't there be a
special case for bad drivers that have got through QA, EG revert to a
good driver, or fast track a fixed one? It seems an issue of  high
importance to me, but so far this bug is not even assigned to someone to
fix it.
