I think there's another bug track on here about the sticking Fn key issue. Thankfully I don't have that problem.
In Feisty I was able to use Fn+F4 to switch to my projector correctly. In Gutsy, this feature doesn't work - I don't know if it is supposed to or not. I got the impression that the idea was to improve the twin monitor capability and as such the 'Screens and Graphics' option was added in System/Administration. Have you tried to get the projector to work from there? I tried it, but it doesn't work very well for projectors.
