5.4.0-1012.12 kernel set the CONFIG_DRＭ_V3D=m, so is the v3d.ko loaded into the kernel? Our ubuntu image of raspi is for server, there is no desktop in the image, so if you don't manually install the desktop, I guess the v3d will not be used.
