That is the way it is supposed to work when the 'Configure Dolphin ->
Save view properties for each folder' checkbox is unchecked. Once you
enable this, you can start saving view profiles for each folder.

Otherwise it'll switch back to the default view configured in Configure
Dolphin -> Default View Mode once you leave the folder you're browsing
with your other, selected by clicking the icons in the toolbar, view.

That's why it's called Default View Mode. It will be the default when
nothing else is configured for that specific directory, via .dolphinview
files.
