This is strange that you're saying you only support the traditional 3390 Mod9, 
Mod27, and Mod54 because on Ubuntu 18.04, we're able to install the OS on a 
100GB DASD without any problems.  RHEL 8.1 and SLES 15 SP1 doesn't have a 
problem installing on DASD storage greater then 3390 Mod54.  Storage greater 
then 3390 Mod54 is part of the IBM EAV (Extended Address Volume) support and 
the current max storage is 1TB.  I thought the Linux DASD drivers should 
support DASD size greater than a 3390 Mod54.  This is evident by the fact that 
going into the shell and doing a dasdfmt works and with the correct DASD size.

The definition of the DASD that are multiple of Mod1 is not handle by
z/VM or even KVM.  This is done via the IBM System Storage DS8000 series
(DS8K) storage console.  I've attached display from the console and
captions.
