Public bug reported: I launched a new instance on azure and noticed that it had 'uptime' of 8 days. Debugging a bit with Odd_Bloke in #cloud-init, it certainly seems that it is around the time when timesync ran:
$ journalctl -o short-monotonic -u systemd-timesyncd.service --no-pager -- Logs begin at Sun 2020-05-17 17:02:46 UTC, end at Tue 2020-05-26 14:25:13 UTC. -- [ 9.538593] ubuntu systemd[1]: Starting Network Time Synchronization... [766223.266062] smoser00 systemd-timesyncd[725]: Synchronized to time server 91.189.91.157:123 (ntp.ubuntu.com). I did not expect 'uptime' to be affected by ntpd fixes. I guess it is possible that I benefited from the "pre-provisioning" on azure, but that seems unlikely as this account has probably run 5 ubuntu instances for a total of maybe a week over the last year. So it would seem a poor candidate for such a thing, or a really good prediction algorithm. If its the latter, then kudos to Microsoft for guessing that I was going to launch an instance today.
