Thanks for following this up. It was a problem initially in a loop mounted feisty install, but I moved to a real install, and am now full time on gutsy on a new machine. There were definitely problems with the loop mounted installs, generally found after hard reboots and resuming, but there have been no stability problems with the hard disk installations. Cheers
