As you suggested I deleted the firefox profile. Now I'm waiting to see if the problem is still present. As at this moment firefox crashed two times when I was trying to watch a trailer from apple quicktime site: I first see a messagge "no video" at then after a while firefox crashed, but I don't think this problem is related to the previous (I can look at the trailers from the movie official web site). Now I'm running with normal desktop effects enabled.
