work-around by doing

sudo apt-get remove nfs-common

nfs-common would previously not upgrade.  Was listed under "distribution
upgrades" in update manager and was greyed out.  Removing this package
allowed the upgrade to proceed. I got the idea from your (Osmo) comment
on bug #154968.
