Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools
After upgrading from Feisty to Gutsy my /etc/network/interfaces files was corrupted. However I did not know that at the time and was just puzzled as to why changing from one network profile to another in System -> Administration -> Network had no effect whatsoever. By no effect I mean that I did not get the window where network-admin says it is changing the network configuration. I also checked with iwconfig eth1 and the network card essid was unchanged, no matter which profile I chose. Yet manually changing the configuration with iwconfig worked. It's only when I did an 'ifup eth1' manually that I got an error message saying that /etc/network/interfaces was incorrect. The error was that the lines for eth1 where in the wrong order. Specifically they where like that: #iface eth1 inet dhcp wireless-key xxxxxxxxxxxxx wireless-essid xxx iface eth1 inet dhcp Not sure what or why the first iface line got commented out. Restoring the proper order made 'ifup eth1' and network-admin work. But network-admin should have reported the error in /etc/network/interfaces. ** Affects: gnome-system-tools (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- network-admin does not report errors in /etc/network/interfaces https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/173876 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
