Thanks for your reply, Pedro. I checked it with a clean user, and it worked just fine. Removing ~/.gnome2/rhythmbox from my own home directory resulted in a perfect result as well. Bad news is that I have occasionally removed that directory completely instead of backing it up, so I doubt it would be possible to track down what went wrong.
I think it wise to close this bug, unless somebody else bumps into the same problem.
