Pedro Tonight i upgraded to Gutsy, and Evince is now displaying pdf's correctly. The upgrade did bring in a new version of the fglrx driver for the ATI card. I had Direct Rendering enabled and composite disbled on feisty. ( ati drivers needed composite disabled to enable DR & i wanted DR) After the upgrade direct rendering is disabled ( im not sure why, still got to work on that) , & whilst composite remains disabled in the xorg.conf, compiz effects are working on the desktop.
