Nanley, I was trying to upgrade to 7.10 using the Update Manager from the System menu. I guess that was wrong using Kubuntu, but I did. Update Manager failed and asked to send an error report. I accepted. An Konqueror internet page window opened and showed the message that the URI was too long. So there I was, in the middle of an upgrade with no way out..
I've got several years of Debian use behind me, so I turned to CTRL-ALT-F2 and aptitude. However, I was locked out due to some process still keeping a lock on update processes. I used ps -A to try to figure out which process. I seemed to be a python script. I killed it and retried aptitude. The rest was a pretty smooth ride, had to answer a few questions along the way.
