thanks! to Almacha and all others now I get the sound working on an asus x53s , 2.6.22-14-generic 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller on a fresh install (third time I reinstall...) gutsy added the linux-backports-modules-2.6.22-14-generic and added options snd-hda-intel model=lenovo to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base eadphone works mic works
