Ubuntu 20.04 development branch with kernel 5.3.0-18-generic up to date

When opening a movie, smplayer resumes the movie
but the browsing bar at bottom is stuck, does not
browse through the movie anymore
the pause and stop button are greyed out (see screenshot)
purge and reinstall did not help
