I forgot to add something potentially important - this used to work until a few days ago. I don't know which update exactly broke things, since usually I use a mouse and I simply didn't notice right away. I updated via the software center pop-up so there could be even more delay.
I went back to older kernels and it does not work anymore (5.2.9 and 5.3.0-18 - 5.3.0-22).
