Hi Cliff, thank you for taking the time to write this detailed report. Evidently this is not an Ubuntu-specific issue - I've managed to reproduce this on Debian Stretch with TDF's own 6.3.2 deb (https://www.libreoffice.org/download/download/?type=deb-x86_64).
