Here are the updated changes from Debian. Over and above what Kow has I have noted that debian/rules remains altered. Also I merged the debian/control.in rather than taking the Ubuntu one, as Debian changed maintainer.
This new version builds in a hardy chroot, and can successfully get my email over IMAPS in a Hardy VM.
