I wouldn't have been so optimistic some months ago, but recently AMD/ATI started to release specifications, and they just hired the main radeon driver developer to do open-source work with them.
It would help if you open a bug upstream and get into a direct debugging dialog with the developers. We can also forward bugs, but it's most efficient when the people seeing the bug also follow up on them.
