I am having the same problem on Gutsy as well. My screen saver is not set to "random", but to "popsqaures" (2D screen saver). I believe the machine is entering a sleep/suspend mode and cannot return from it (even though my power management is set to "never do anything"). Since the system completely hangs I cannot track the exact package. I would like also to mention that the "system hangs" problem also occurred to me in 2 other occasions: 1. I installed the "bubbles" (or "pop bubbles" or something like that, through the "add/remove ..."). The system hangs completely, ALWAYS, after a while. 2.
