I WAS getting the same Input/output error. I was using a Sony internal 830 internal dvd burner. When I hooked up an external Sony 820 USB drive I had no problem writing dvd's. I create an .iso with DeVeDe then just right click on it and "write to disk". This looks like a hardware compatibility problem, not a software bug.
