I apologise. This is not a bug but a question...

Further research shows a couple of USB phones/devices are supported, but the 
project will take time.
Because of this it looks like 'maybe' the middleware supplied with said generic 
USB phone may possibly
work in the WINE environment, which is what I had intended for the Skype thing 
anyway, just a test case.

The one thing I did encounter is very low sound volume on recording from the 
motherboard sound card,
even with the VIA 8235 (Alsa mixer) with every option set on including one for 
volume...

That will be the only option for Skype (proprietary) solution for VoIP,
so I'll check the Questions on that.
