Public bug reported: In /etc/default/pulseaudio,
# Start the PulseAudio sound server in system mode. # (enables the pulseaudio init script) # System mode is not the recommended way to run PulseAudio as it has some # limitations (such as no shared memory access) and could potentially allow # users to disconnect or redirect each others audio streams. # 0 = don't start, 1 = start PULSEAUDIO_SYSTEM_START=0 This note is correct, but it fails to mention the correct way to run pulseaudio. Running pulse in this mode doesn't work very well. I had real problems controlling the volume in my system. I thought pulse was broken when in fact it was just installed wrong. After some discussion on the pulseaudio list the right way to run pulseaudio is via gnome session manager. After changing my system to run pulse in my session everything is working fine. /etc/default/pulseaudio needs a note saying that the recommended way to run pulse is form a session. It would also be nice if installing the package created a session entry and enabled it. ** Affects: pulseaudio (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Pulseaudio install options need help https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/164226 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
