The description of the package says:

This is misleading!  Linux doesn't support journaled HFS+ partitions.
You can mount journaled partions read-write using a "force" mount option
but there is a very good chance of wrecking the filesystem that way.

If you want to write to HFS+ from Linux, you better disable journaling
("diskutil disableJournal <device>" on OS X).
