Public bug reported:

Everything was working under 19.04, then I upgraded to 19.10 Eoan Ermine, now
the video is scrambled under either Mate or LXQT if marco window display
manager / compositor is used. If I switch to openbox on lxqt then it works
okay. I can not find any command line method of switching on mate so no way to
get it working at all. This is with a Nvidia 7300 GT video card and nouveau
drivers.
marco:
  Installed: 1.22.2-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 1.22.2-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 1.22.2-0ubuntu1 500
        500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu eoan/universe amd64 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
What I expected as a normal Mate Desktop as I had with 1.20.
What I got instead was scrambled display like an old analog television with the
horizontal control misadjusted.
If someone could tell me how to switch to compiz from the command line this
would give me a
workable alternative while this gets addressed.
