@renbag: Tried that, but didn't help for me. Actually it would have been weird if it had made a difference, since sane-backends has been built with libusb-1.0-0-dev for a long time, which make libsane/libsane1 and sane-utils depend on libusb-1.0-0.
I can scan with my MFC-240C on both 16.04 and 19.04.
