Had same problem today. I had new LG Gram 15Z980. Have been using for a couple of days only with W10 that came installed by default. Today I've installed Linux Mint 19.1 and just after installing from live USB, the first reboot started making strange noise.
As soon as I heard that I just power off and power on again.
