This bug report seems to correctly diagnose the issue, which is of
course a major problem for a file "viewer"-type application.

As a filthy workaround, I found I could snap refresh with the --devmode
switch explained here: <https://snapcraft.io/blog/demystifying-snap-
confinement>.  Of course, that page also explains "End users should not
normally install snaps in devmode as this undoes any protections set out
with confinement and interfaces."
