You won't be able to update the BIOS from Ubuntu (this time or in the future) in legacy mode.
Unfortunately it's not possible to convert a stock Ubuntu install to UEFI mode. So you'll need to switch modes and reinstall. So it probably comes down to a question of whether that's important to you in the future.
