I am not sure I know what a cold boot is but that partition is not gone
yet. I can try once I know what it is. This is on an older Dell
Dimension 8400 tower. Dual booting with Win 7 and separate drive with
Win XP. This machine is what I use as a hobby for some gaming my laptop
with dual boot Win 10, Linux Cinnamon 18.3 and Ubuntu Bionic Beaver
won't do with ease. Laptop heats now and shuts down. Off topic but let
me know and I'll try it. Thanks for your help and efforts.

Title:
Sound issue, or rather, lack of sound

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Linux Mint 18.3 update Kernel 4.4.0-143-generic up-heaved my Alsa
mixer/pulse-audio or something to disable sound, made the mixer and
configurations useless and grayed out/inoperable. I have gone through
this some time ago and forgotten how to remedy but the next thing,
besides what I have tried futilely, will be to rollback the new kernel
  to its predecessor.
