Just made/realized I had a launchpad account for this. I love snapd but I'm tired of seeing the ~/snap directory pop up so much that I added a line to my bashrc to notify me if it shows up again. I'll likely be reinstalling snaps once this gets fixed, but I do want to say one thing to the developers. when a problem has 5 times as much "heat" as the next largest complaint, your userbase probably cares a lot about it, and it comes off as pretty disrespectful for you to just pass it off as an example of the Law of triviality. IMO, this should have been done soon after this bug was posted, and symlinks of some kind for each snaps download folders and such. That being said, I have barely looked at the snap code at all, and would like to ask the developers why just grepping for every @{HOME}/snap and replacing it with @{HOME}/.snap wouldn't solve the problem? What containerization would be broken if you found and changed every reference to the snap folder?
